Water requirements

Tomato’s water demand is very high. The total input in fact varies from 5.000 to7.000 m3/Ha.

These water inputs must be interpreted according to the seasonal climatic trends (based on rainfall estimates and data received from weather stations) and in accordance with the company’s production objectives.

Our philosophy is to convey the right water volume to the plant, minimizing the waste through irrigation systems guaranteeing maximum irrigation efficiency and at low pressure.

Irrigation system for industrial tomato

The most suitable irrigation system for tomatoes is drip irrigation. The driplines are installed by each plant row (every 1.5 mt for singles row, 1.6 mt for double  rows), generally on the ground.

The flow-rate of each dripper is between 0.8 and 1.5 liter/hour with 30/40 cm spacing. This allows to have 6700 ml of dripline (single row) or 6250 ml (double row).

This system can always be implemented regardless of the shape of the field (which could be irregular, not perfectly squared) and the position of the water source. All this reduces the necessary manpower and remarkably reduces energy costs.

Filtration system

The filtration system is an essential element of a drip irrigation system because it avoids the system’s obstruction guaranteeing that each dripper supplies the nominal flow rate as per project, thus ensuring uniformity for the whole block.

Fertigation and automation

Fertigation plays a primary role in tomato ripening, thanks to the translocation of sugars to the berry during the final part of the crop’s cycle. It also increases the resistance of plants to drought, improves photosynthetic activity and radical proliferation, increases the quality in brix degrees and the shelf life of the fruit.

With the application of fertigation systems, productivity is increased by 20% compared to the traditional methods with less irrigation efficiency and traditional fertilization.
